| Reviewer: Sarah S. '09 Alanna goes
to the palace to become a knight under the name of Alan. She befriends the prince
and some of the most powerful kids in the country of Tortal. She goes through many
challenges and soon meets the prince's uncle, Duke Roger. She and the prince have a
growing relationship, but she gets suspicious that Roger is up to something evil.
She tries to tell people that, but they don't believe her. All the while she has the
constant fear of someone figuring out her secret.
This was a wonderful book! It is one of my favorites! If you like this book you
should read more Tamora Pierce books. She writes great quartets!

Alanna and her brother switch places. Her brother is going off to become a knight and
Alanna is going to go to the convent. They switch places because her brother would rather
be a sorcerer and she would rather be a knight. Since she and her brother are identical
twins, they pull it off perfectly. When A get to the castle, she finds out being a knight
is a lot harder than it looks. She makes many friends and one enemy. One of her friends is
the prince of the kingdom. An exciting part of the book is when she has to fight her
enemy. Another great part is when she and Prince Jonathan fight the witch people at the
Black City. I thought the book was really exciting, and I think you will like A too. It is
part of a series. 2/5/99 |
