| Reviewer: Kristen G.'07 In The Barn, a boy named Ben lives at Mr.
Dortmeisters school because his mother has died and his father makes a promise to
his mother that Ben would get an education. His family lives in the Oregon territory on a
farm. While at school, Ben finds out that his father has become ill with palsy. Ben is
sent home from school. When he goes home, he takes care of his father while his brother
and sister work in the fields. Over the months his father has improved a lot. One day
Father says that he thinks that he will become better if the family builds a barn that he
had planned to build. Ben tells this to his sister and she becomes furious saying that Ben
is crazy and father will never get better. But Ben will not give up his Father's dream.
The Barn is a good story that lets you know if
you work together you can get something done.
