Michael W. '11Hatchet is a
book about a 13-year-old boy named Brian Robinson, who is stranded in
the wilderness after the small plane he is in crashes. The pilot dies
while in flight of a heart attack, and Brian continues to fly the
plane for a few hours, but runs out of fuel and crashes in the middle
of the Canadian wilderness.
The book is about his life while he is stranded
for 54 days. All he has with him when he lands is a hatchet.
Everything else he needs to survive, he must make or find. He learns
how to make spears, a bow and arrows, and uses these for hunting. He
also has to make his own shelter and other things in order to
survive. He is all alone before he is rescued by a fur trapper who is
mapping out his territory.
I would rate this book an eight out of ten
because of the adventure about how to live outdoors alone without
modern tools. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes outdoor
adventures.

| Reviewer: Lauren G. '08 The book Hatchet is about a boy named Brain whose parents are
divorced. He was on a single jet to go visit his dad. His mom had given him a hatchet
because his dad cut down trees for a living. While they are up in the air, the pilot
sufferers a heart attack, and dies. Brain has to land the plane by himself. The book is
about Brains learning to survive alone in the wilderness with only the hatchet.
If I were to rate this book on a scale of 1-10, I would rate it a 3 because there was
hardly any action, and when there was, it wasnt explained to a point where you could
really feel what was happening.

| Reviewer: Meera S. '08 There was a boy named Brian and he was on a plane to visit his dad. The pilot
started getting pains and then died. Brian's plane crashed into a lake. He was stranded
there with only a windbreaker and a hatchet that his mother given him. He found wild
berries and he saw many different wild animals. He made a fire, which took him ages, and
he found it difficult to do anything without a bow and arrow. Finally making himself a
shelter and a bow and arrows, Brian caught fish and trapped animals that he cooked over
the fire. He had a hard time doing a lot, and he watched to see if anyone would come to
rescue him. He stayed in the wild for a long time. If you want to find out if Brian is
ever rescued, read the book! |

| Reviewer: Justin S. '07 I read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. It is about a boy, Brian,
who is in an airplane crash in the Canadian wilderness. Brian has to learn how to survive
on natural resources. He has to experience dangers, such as: porcupines, moose, wolves and
hurricanes.
I liked Hatchet because it had lots of adventure.
I recommend it!
