The book Julie of the Wolves is about
a girl named Miyax who is an Eskimo. When she turns nine, she goes to
live with her aunt, who she hates, to go to school. When she is with
her aunt, she learns that her father has disappeared. He went
out in a kayak and never returned. When she turns 20, she gets away
from her aunt by marrying Daniel, a fellow Eskimo, whom she has never
seen before. Unfortunately, Daniel turns out to be worse than her
aunt, so she runs away to live in the wild as the old Eskimos did.
She decides to go to Point Hope, where she planned to catch a boat to
take her to San Francisco to live with a girl named Amy, who was her
pen pal. On her trip to Point Hope, she will have to befriend a pack
of Arctic Wolves. That is, if she is to survive. Read the book to find
out what happens next.I would rate this
book a nine out of ten. I liked it because the story is about someone
trying to survive in one of the harshest places on Earth; I would
recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories about nature and peop le who
have to overcome challenges.

| Reviewer: Pat H. '09 Julie, aka Mayax, is an Eskimo who is stranded in the Arctic
tundra. Her only hope of surviving is a wolf pack that neighbors her hut.
During her journey to get back to her father, she establishes a relationship with the wolf
pack, especially with Kapu, the Alfa pup, and Amoroq, the pack leader. When
she finally finds her father, something terrible happens. Read the book to find out
what happens and how the wolves help Julie survive.

| Reviewer: Lauren C. '06 Miyax, also known as Julie, is accepted into a wolf pack. Her father went out
to sea and never came home. Julies wolf pack leader was shot to death. Her best
friend, Tornait, is a bird that got sick and died. Her mother got sick and passed away
too. In this book there is a lot of blood shed and death. Jean C. George captures the way
Eskimos act as well as the animals that live there.
Julie of the Wolves is a love story and a thrilling
adventure book. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy those types of stories.
