you imagine guards or soldiers stopping you at every corner? Can you imagine soldiers
coming into your house at 4:00 in the morning? Can you imagine people hating you just
because of your religion? Well, stop imagining. This is what Jewish people had to go
through everyday in Europe during the 1940s. This story is about a 10 year old girl,
Annemarie, and her best friend Ellen, growing up during the Holocaust. Annemarie must face
many dangerous missions to help save Ellens life.
I recommend this book to anyone. This one is of those "have-to-read" books.
So go read it!

Number the Stars is about a ten year old, Annemarie Johnson, and her friend,
Ellen Rosen. It is 1943 and war is near Annemaries town. The town is having food
shortages and the Nazis are patrolling the streets. They are looking for Jews to put them
in internment camps. Ellen is Jewish and is staying with Annemarie while her parents are
gone. Ellen is forced to lie and hide from the Nazis. Its a great historical fiction
book. 1-8-99 |
| Reviewer: Eileen K. '06 I enjoyed reading about the setting of Number the Stars, a
time when the Germans came to Denmark during World War II. I also liked the way the
characters solved their problems. It was clever of them to help their Jewish friends
escape to Sweden.
Number the Stars made me not want to stop reading
after I started. I think you will enjoy this interesting historical fiction book.
