Hockey Radicals is a book about a boy, Kirby Childs, who just moved into his new
house in Valemont. All the kids in Kirbys neighborhood have gone to summer camp so
it looks like a boring summer. When Kirby goes riding on his bike down to the other end of
town, he finds a group of kids playing roller hockey. The kids (Lainie, Marty, Jamal and
Nick) invite Kirby to play on their hockey team. Kirby had played little roller hockey but
had spent all winter playing ice hockey. Kirby parents dont agree with Kirbys
decision to join the team. First, they think the street is unsafe; they think the opponent
is unsafe; and last of all, they think Kirby is going to get hurt and he will not be able
to play for the rest of the summer. Can Kirby find a compromise? Can he do something to
make it safer, or do what his parents say and sit around for the rest of the summer?
