This book reminds me of a movie I once saw. And, in this movie, I saw a grandma that tells stories for a living. In The Witches there is a lady who likes to tell stories about witches. In her mind, there are such things as witches. They are the most dangerous creatures on earth. But this grandma is different than all other grandparents, she hates kids. She is so mean that she uses special spells to try to get rid of her grandkids. Read the book to find out what happens.

The Witches is about a boy who lives in England until his parents die in a car crash. He then goes to live in Norway with his Grandma. For their summer vacation they decide to go to the coast of Southern England. When they arrive they find themselves in the midst of the annual witches meeting. The boy sneaks into the meeting and hears how the evil witches are planning to kill all the children of England. Will he be able to escape unharmed without the witches noticing him?

Roald Dahl has made many children’s books. For example, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The B.F.G., Fantastic Mr. Fox, those awful Twits, and many others. But one of my favorites is called The Witches. This is a fantasy story but if you believe in witches it may not be fantasy to you! Witches have no hair, so they cover their heads with wigs. They have no toes, so they hide them by  squeezing their feet into pointed shoes. Witches have blue spit and big, curvy nostrils. They also have claws for fingernails like cats but they hade them with gloves.

Well, enough about witches, let me tell you about the big risk this all fits into. This story is told in first person. The main character is a little boy who lives with his grandmother. His name is not given throughout the story. Grandma and her grandson try to destroy all the witches in the world but they can’t figure out how. Meanwhile the witches want to destroy all the children by using this magic formula that they made called “86 Delayed Action Mouse Maker” to turn them into mice. Grandma and her grandson steal this and are planning to turn the witches into mice instead. How will they do this? Will it work? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

This story is about a boy and his grandmother.  The boy is turned into a mouse by the Grand High Witch. All of the witches want to get rid of all the children in the world. The Grand High Witch makes a potion called Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker. All the witches get a very small bottle of  this potion to put in chocolate and sell it to children. At the end of the story  the boy steals the potion and puts it in each of the witches' soup and it turns the witches into mice. Later the boy finds the Grand High Witch's address book and goes on a journey to kill all the witches.  If you want more details on this book go to your local library and look up The Witches by Roald Dahl.

I liked the book The Witches, because there is action in every chapter. Witches blend in with normal people. They wear wigs to hide their baldness. They wear gloves so no one will see their fingers (they have no finger nails). They also wear boots so they won’t reveal their square feet. Their mission is to destroy every child in the world. They have a greeness in their eye when they see a child they want to torture.

If you don’t read The Witches you might miss out on an encounter with the head of all witches (the Grand High Witch).

The grandmother in Witches tells stories about witches and what they do to children. She tells her grandchild that witches: don’t have real hair, they have square feet, they don’t have any toes, and they wear gloves to cover their claws.

The grandmother takes the boy on a vacation. They go to a hotel that is having a witches’ convention. The Grand Witch is there and she turns the young boy and another child into mice. Witches is about how the boys have to get an anecdote to turn themselves back into boys. They are the only ones who can kill the witches.
