Sixth Grade
Author Study Project
One of the reading units in Germantown Academy's sixth grade English curriculum is called "The Author Study" project. In groups, students choose an author and research his or her background and literature. Each student in a particular group reads a different book by the selected author, and during class time, they compare, constrast and discuss their books and the author's writing style. In addition, students investigate the author's biographical information and try to make connections between the writer's life and his or her subject matter. Some of this research is done using the Web. For a list of sites pertaining to some of the selected authors and thier work, click on the stack of books below.
