State the name of your game and why you chose it.

The name of the game we chose is Shinny. We chose it because we wanted something active, and we like to run and hit a small ball. It interested us from all its aspects, and we enjoy playing hockey, whether it is street hockey, ice hockey or even field hockey.

List the countries where it is played and its origin.

The game Shinny actually was first played by the Native Americans in North America. Its roots, though, are practically universal. It was played in the 500 BC by the Greeks, by the Anglo-Saxons in the 12^th century, and spread to the Dutch in the 15th century and even Russia in the 20^th century.  Shinny was the root of all hockey games. Ice hockey, field hockey, or any form of hockey is based on the game shinny.

Describe how your game is played. State the object of the game. Clearly describe the rules.

• The game shinny is played like hockey. There are two teams, and they play against each other, both trying to hit the ball into the opponent’s goal. It is played with an unlimited number of players… the number of people is determined by the size of the court. It is best with 5-8 players .
• It is played on a flat plain, as large as they want it to be. The objet is to whack the ball, or whatever you’re using as a ball, into the opponent’s goal. To do this, you need to pass the ball, or just hit it as hard as you can.
• It is very similar to hockey, and lots of people know how to play that.
• There are basically no rules. It is a free-for-all, and the losers try to kill the winners.

List the equipment needed.

• It can be played with a tennis ball or hockey puck and with hockey sticks.
• When this game was first played there was no equipment required.
• Nowadays, though, people make rules and wear some protective equipment just to make it safe.

Make recommendations for what type of athlete would enjoy playing this game. What skills does it demand?

• Alex:  I think that someone who likes to run a lot would enjoy this game. Street hockey and field hockey are variations of it, so anyone who likes hickey would like it. It requires a lot of endurance, because it is played over a widespread area. You are need good eye-hand coordination because with a thin stick you have to hit the ball. You also need strength to propel the ball. I think that this game could be played at any level, but it would be best at an older level, such as national, or even international. The reason it is better when you’re older is that there is more skill involved. When you are older, you know how to pass better, but when you are younger, you would probably tend to just whack at it. I think that this game is a really neat game. It is very creative, and I like to play any form of hockey, so I like it a lot. It can get pretty reckless at times, so you have to watch how you play, or you an get hurt or even killed.
• Peter:  Anyone who likes any type of hockey would like shinny. This could be played in a PE class, in an alley, and the best place to play is a frozen pond. The field house would be the best place to play at GA, but either of the gyms would be fine. There wouldn’t be much teaching involved because it is exactly like hockey.
