PowerPoint is an application that will help you assemble professional looking slides to be used in your oral presentations. Each slide can contain text, pictures, sounds, colorful backgrounds and transitions.

Step One - Launch the PowerPoint application from the Launcher, or the Microsoft Office icon on the top left of the desktop.

Step Two - A dialogue box will appear; choose "Pick a Look Wizard"; hit next; on next dialogue box, choose "On Screen Presentation"; hit next; on next dialogue box select the radio button for the background you want; hit finish.

Step Three - A title slide is your first slide. It has two text boxes one for your title and one for a subtitle. Select the word "Title" and type in the title of your presentation. Select the word "Subtitle" and type in your first name and last initial.

Step Four - The color, size and position of your text can be changed See"Working with Text".

Step Five -Add a new slide by hitting the first icon just to the right of center on the bottom of the screen, "New Slide". A dialogue box appears with a large selection of slides. Select the second slide on the top row for all your slides, then hit OK.

Step Six - Select the word "title" and type in the title of your slide. Click into the bullet text box and type the points you wish to discuss. Hit return after each point and a new bullet will appear.

Step Seven - You can add pictures to your slides, See "
Working with images".

Step Eight - Repeat Steps Five through Seven for each new slide. Save your work often!

Step Nine - Add transitions and builds to your finished presentation. A transition is the action which will happen as you leave one slide to go to another. On the bottom left , choose the third icon which is called slide sorter. The screen will be covered with miniatures of each slide.

Step Ten - Add a transition by selecting a slide; on the top left of the screen there is a long rectangle with the words "no transition"; click and hold on the icon and a long list of transitions will appear; scroll down to select your choice. Do this for each slide!

Step Eleven - Add a build to any slide that has bullets. When you apply build your bulleted points will not appear all at the same time but bullet will appear with each click of the mouse. Go to the top of the page:. to the right of center there is a long rectangle with the words "no builds"; click and hold on the icon and a long list of builds will appear; scroll down to select your choice. Do this for each slide with bullets!
