Spanish C students have been studying a vocabulary unit on parts of the body, illnesses, and a trip to the doctor’s office and the pharmacy. Each student will work with a partner in writing and acting out a scene in the doctor’s office, the waiting room or the pharmacy. The scenes will be videotaped with a digital video camera, and then they will be downloaded to computers, so that each pair of students may create an i-movie, complete with titles, transitions or special effects, credits and background music.

Pairs of students will write an original scene, submit it for editing, and when it is returned, practice the pronunciation and memorize their parts of the dialog. They will make and/or bring in props, and rehearse their lines. The scenes will be videotaped and downloaded on computers. Each pair of students will create an original i-movie.

Students will be introduced to the new vocabulary in class. They will work with this vocabulary for a number of days before they are required to write an original dialog. For homework, students will memorize their lines and be prepared to present their scene in class. Two or three days will be devoted to videotaping the class. The scenes will be downloaded to the computer, and students will meet in the CALC for three or four days to receive a tutorial on i-movie production and to edit their scenes incorporating a title, transitions, sound effects, musical background, and credits.

50 points Presentation of the scene (with attention to preparation,
pronunciation, props, and dramatic quality)
40 points Use of technology (with attention to appropriateness of
title, transitions, sound effects, music, and credits in addition
to esthetic quality of the aforementioned.)
10 points Meeting all deadlines

By completing this project, students will have learned some of the expressions associated with illnesses and how to express their “problems” to a doctor or to another individual, or to give advice upon hearing that someone is ill They will have had the opportunity to use their creative and dramatic talents in acting as well as in the production of an their very own movie. They will also have had an introduction to the i-movie application, which they will be able to recall for subsequent projects for any class.
