Math in the Real World

One of the questions that always come up in math classes is the eternal query: "When are we ever going to use this?" This has prompted me to give, through out the year, projects that they pick out of a hat. The topics range from interviews, history, art, music, games, to researching the lives of mathematicians. They write poems and stories as well. Here are some of the projects that the students have done.

They researched their topic, and handed in a hard copy. Later we introduced them to Page Mill, and they transformed their research into a Web Page.
