Constantine the Great indeed deserved his title. He defeated a great number of enemies, and killed many to become Augustus. However, he is remembered by some as a saint, "Bishop outside the Church," a man of God. He was ruthless but devoted, cold-hearted to enemies and protector of the persecuted. Clearly this man was a paradox, but somehow his devotion to his religion and his love for enemies' suffering earned him the appropriate title, Constantine the Great.
