The purpose of this experiment was to determine at which age children can identify the correct color for various common objects. To carry out this experiment, nine pictures were made, as well as one example picture. Each picture contained a common object shown in three different colors. One was typically colored, one was atypically colored, and one was white. For example, one picture showed three different apples, one red, one white, and one purple. Then, 62 subjects, ages two years to five years and eleven months, were tested. Each subject was asked to point to the "right color" for each object.
After completing the experiment, it was found that the subjects could identify the correct color for 66% (twice the percentage of random guessing, 33%) of the objects shown by the age of four years. Subjects of two completed years of age could only identify the color for 42.11% of the nine questions.
