The Effects of Watching a Movie on
the Human Heart Rate.Watching a Movie on the Human Heart Rate.
The purpose of this experiment was to determine what the effects
of watching a horror movie versus a Walt Disney movie are on the
human heart rate. To carry out this experiment, twenty subjects
(ten male, ten female) were taken into a secluded room one at
a time. Then, they were attached to a heart monitor, and shown
a three minute, thirteen second movie clip. This contained two
scenes from The Little Mermaid, and one scene from In
Dreams. After each subject was finished, their heart rates
before, during, and after the movie clip were recorded. When all
twenty subjects had been completed, the data and results were
analyzed. All testing was done under the same conditions.
After completing the experiment, it was found that the average
resting heart rate among the subjects was 75.3. The average heart
rate at the end of the movie clip was 82.3. The average maximum
heart rate was 116.35. On average, this climax occurred one minute
and twenty seconds into the movie. The average low of all the
subjects heart rates was 64.5. It was also found that in general,
the male heart rate was higher than the female heart rate throughout
the whole experiment.
