The purpose of this project was to see how different metal
compounds effected the color of the flame. The three metal compounds
used in this project were Cupric Nitrate, Lithium Nitrate, and
Potassium Nitrate. A gas jet and bunsen burner produced this flame;
the tool used to place the compound in the flame was a nichrome
wire.
Cupric Nitrate produced a green flame, Lithium Nitrate produced
a red flame, and Potassium Nitrate fabricated a pinkish-purple
flame. According to individual scales, Cupric Nitrate's flame
color was 3.0, Lithium Nitrate's flame color was 1.3, and Potassium
Nitrate's flame color was 3.7.
