In this experiment, the purpose was to find out the amount of caffeine there is in different types of sodas. The different types of sodas that were used in this experiment were Coke, Caffeine-Free Coke, and Surge that are all products of the Coco-Cola Company. To find out the amount of caffeine in the sodas, the caffeine had to be extracted from the soda and massed to find the exact amount. Hexane was used to help extract the caffeine from the soda. After the caffeine was extracted from the soda, the caffeine was measured on a balance after it sat out all-night and evaporated. After all the measurements were through with, the results were compared and did not support the hypothesis of the experiment. The caffeine amounts were different than expected and therefore the hypothesis was rejected.
