Abstract

The purpose of the experement was to determine which calcium supplement

dissolves more rapidly in stomach acid. To complete the experiment, 3

different calcium supplments were placed in artificial stomach acid, and

stirred to simulate the churning motion of the stomach. All the times were

then recorded and averaged. The three dissolving times for Healthy One were

12:40, 12:56, and 13:00 minutes. The average time was 12:52 minutes. The

three dissovlingtimes for Caltrate 600 were 10:54, 11:17, and 11:12 minutes.

The average time was 11:07 minutes. The three dissolving times for One-A-Day

were 12:34, 12:13, and 12:19 minutes. The average time was 11:22 minutes.

The hypothesis is accepted because Caltrate 600 dissolved most rapidly

because of its high concentration of calcium carbonate. This occured because

calcium carbonate helps supplements dissolve quickly.
