The
purpose of this experiment was to determine whether labels on
meats of their fat contents are true. To carry out this experiment,
the meat was divided into equal amounts then grilled at 177 Celsius
for 10 min. Collect the fat drippings and measure it, then calculate
the moisture content
and repeat for as many times as meat pieces.
After completing the experiment it was found that the analyzed
fat content for the labeled 90% lean was almost exactly accurate,
90.16%. The analyzed fat content far the 82% lean labeled meat
was also very accurate,
83.93%. The analyzed fat content for the labeled 77% lean labeled
meat was not as accurate as the other results were, which supported
my hypothesis,
81.53%.
The hypothesis was partially rejected because the results of the
90% lean labeled and the 82% lean labeled we extremely accurate,
yet the 77% lean labeled meat results were not accurate, so therefore
in conclusion, the labels given on the fat content of ground beef
are true to their word.
