Oral Proficiency Contest

Modern Language students annually participate in a variety of contests--in-house and regional. The first of these contests is the in-house oral proficiency contest, held each January, for Level 1 in Middle School andLevels 01-5 in Upper School French and Spanish. The student is interviewed by a panel of Modern Language teachers and a winner is selected at each level. The winners then go on the the Montgomery County Oral Proficiency Contest held in the end of February. The winners for 1999-2000 are:

Level 5: Swathi Bala

Level 5: Margaret Whitman

 

These winners went on to represent GA at the Montgomery County Oral Proficiency Contest held at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School on February 29th. Alexa Haines, Christie Shaner, Swathi Bala and Margaret Whitman were named finalists and each won second place in their category.

Students also participate in the National Contests for both French and Spanish. The 1999-2000 winners for "Le Grand Concours" were:

MCATFL Foreign Language Certificates of Merit

Teachers who belong to MCATFL (the Montgomery County Association of Teachers of Foreign Language) are entitled to award a Certificate of Merit to five of their students each academic year. This certificate is given to students for their dedication to and their excellent level of achievement in the study of French or Spanish. This year's awards for students in Upper School courses are as follows:
