The GA boys’ soccer team entered Saturday with high hopes. If they won, the team would win the Inter-Ac Championship. Yet, the team will have to settle with second place, as PC emerged victoriously 3-1.

The game’s first half was the focal point of a large crowd, including the faithful Super Fan group, as other games were over and the football teams were just emerging to warm up. Most seniors started the game, and Athletic Director Jim Fenerty thanked the seniors for their contributions in building GA’s soccer program. Unfortunately, senior Jeff Moss was sidelined with a broken nose. The first half was mostly a defensive struggle, with the only goal scored by Nick Sih, an eighth grader. Senior Joe Verdi excelled in defense, stopping several PC scoring chances. Junior Dave Simolike excelled in goal, making stellar saves. In addition, senior Andrew Ferguson made an excellent defensive stop to save a potentially game-tying goal. The score at halftime was 1-0 GA.

The second half was a remarkably different game. PC improved defensively, giving up only a few breakaway scoring chances. On the other hand, GA lost some of its defensive fury, as PC scored three goals. Several breakaway attempts led by seniors Alex Hamill and Ryan Cassidy were stopped by a stifling PC defensive resurgence.
