Academy Edition ReporterIf you look up "nail-biter" in the
dictionary, you are going to see "GA Girls Tennis". Despite a 7-0 loss to
Penn Charter, these girls played incredible matches. Leading the team, co-captain and
senior, Emily Ducat, played one of her best matches at first singles. Her groundstrokes
and ball placement were outstanding. Although PC won 6-2, 6-4 Emily certainly gave her
opponent a run for her money. Congratulations Emily on a fantastic tennis career at GA!
Sophomore, Jordan Bradstock, playing second singles tore up the court with her
incredible serve and awesome groundstrokes. PC eventually won the match 6-1, 6-5 with a
great comeback by Jordan in the second set. We look forward to watching two more years of
terrific tennis from Jordan.
Competitive spirit and tennis skill run in the Mirable family. Elaine Mirable, a
sophomore, has had a great season her first year as a varsity player. Both of the
qualities mentioned above were seen in Elaines match on GA/PC day. Despite a 6-1,
6-2 loss, Elaine played an excellent match.
Junior, Ashley Dorris, continues to play fantastic tennis in her third season as a
varsity player. After her usual role as a doubles player, this was Ashleys first
season as a singles player. Her agility on the court combined with her finesse adds to her
all around game. Although PC came out as the winner of this match, Ashley played an
amazing game.
Along with their typical tennis uniforms, senior and co-captain, Rachel Landes, and
Lauren Freid added some style to their game at first doubles with their matching blue and
red striped socks! Their usual spirit was evident in their second set. After a loss in the
first set, 6-0, they were able to battle back and make the second set more suspenseful at
7-5 PC. Congratulations to Rachel Landes for wonderful and successful tennis here at GA.
The longest and most nerve-racking match of the day came from junior Natalie
Rittenhouse and sophomore Lee Graf playing second doubles. Both girls had outstanding
shots at the net as well as good communication and a solid game. After a loss in the first
set by a close score of 7-5, they were able to dominate and win the second set 6-1,
bringing the match to a third set. Unfortunately, PC won by a margin in the third set
tiebreak by a score of 7-6.
Sophomores, Katie Allenson and Erica Ducat had a marvelous season their first year on
varsity. Overall, despite a determined effort and consistent groundstrokes, PC won 6-2,
6-1.
Thank you, girls tennis for a stellar season and remember
Were
Animals!!!
While walking through the hallway you
may have noticed a few girls here and there wearing blue shirts with a rather interesting
question printed on the front, "What are we?" Well, if you actually ask them
that question youll either have one of those girls turn their back towards you or
respond with the same answer, "Were Animals!" If GA had a most creative
motto award, tennis would win by a landslide.
Coached by Mr. Rittenhouse, Girls Tennis has
had an awesome year. Despite a loss to Penn Charter earlier in the season, this group of
girls promises to give it their all come GA/PC day. Seniors and co-captains Emily Ducat
and Rachel Landes have done a remarkable job leading and supporting their teammates.
This years line up for varsity tennis
includes: Emily Ducat, Jordan Bradstock, Ashley Dorris, Elane Mirable, Lauren Fried,
Rachel Landes, Natalie Rittenhouse, Lee Graf, Erica Ducat and Katie Allenson.
The matches start at 10:00 AM on November 9th, so be sure to come
out and watch. It should be an awesome show!!
