The Read for Ronald Program
On January 23rd, 4th and 5th grade students were treated to a visit from Ronald McDonald
who came to school to explain the "Read -for- Ronald' program to benefit the
Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. During the month of February, 4th and 5th grade
volunteers will get their family and friends to "sponsor " them for every
minute that they read. At the end of the month, students will calculate and collect
the pledges and bring the money in to school. The money will go to the
Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, with GA receiving 10%! The kids are encouraged to
read and are rewarded by knowing that they are helping sick kids and their families.
There are also special "perks" and prizes for all who participate!
The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, the nation's first, is a home-away-from-
home for families with seriously ill children being treated at area
hospitals. It provides shelter, food, laundry facilities, transportation and emotional
support so families may focus their attention on their children. Last year
children at other local schools raised over $95,000 in the
"Read-for-Ronald" program.
