LOWER SCHOOL CSO

Members 2002-2003

Programs in Process:

  • Here are the projects chosen by the Lower School CSO. You can show your support by sending in requested items for any or all of the projects below. All items should be placed in the CSO box located in lower school classrooms and will be collected by the CSO students weekly. Thanks for supporting these kids as they do their part to make the world a better place!
    • Coat Drive - December 6th
    • CSO All School Holiday Program
      The All School Holiday Program will take place on Thurs. Dec. 19th. The gifts that are collected at the program will be delivered to needy children by the Upper School CSO on Sat. Dec. 21st.

      ALL MEMBERS OF THE GA COMMUNITY (STUDENTS - FACULTY - STAFF - PARENTS - TRUSTEE) are asked to bring a wrapped gift to the program on the 19th . Gifts should be labeled for boy or girl and an indication of age range or clothing size is appreciated. This program has become a terrific "Senior Sponsored" GA tradition.

    The purpose of the Lower School CSO is:

    1. To instill a sense of community awareness and involvement;
    2. To help the kids gain an understanding of how helping others is beneficial to everyone involved;
    3. To allow the children an opportunity to use their creativity and resourcefulness to brainstorm, plan, and execute projects of a meaningful nature.

    Lower School CSO requires commitment on the part of each participant to attend the meeting every week. After Winter break, the kids will attend CSO every other week, depending upon the project they select. CSO meetings continue until the middle of April.

    Last year, the Lower School CSO was extremely successful in the projects the kids created. They kicked off the year with a very successful Thanksgiving Food Drive, feeding over 100 families in the Olney section of Philadelphia. They collected books for inner-city schools and Children's Hospital Literacy Outreach Program. They collected aluminum tabs and raised over $10,000 through a "read-a-thon" for the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. They made and collected hundreds of sandwiches for the Upper School Homeless Outreach project, raised money for the SPCA, Project Home and Ambler Food Cupboard through basketball game bake sales, and collected clothing and toys for needy children through various organizations.

    We are confident that this year's CSO group will come up with many wonderful and gratifying projects to reach out and make a difference in the community.

    Note to parents:

    Each Tuesday, participating children eat lunch in the Common Room while while meetings are conducted, Although it is not required, we have noticed that the meeting runs much more smoothly when the children pack a lunch from home, so we do encourage this practice. Most weeks, we finish by 12:00 so that the children will have time to go outside for recess.

    Thank you for supporting your kids as they engage in this important work.

  • Overview

    The Lower School Community Service organization is comprised of volunteers from the fourth and fifth grade homerooms. They meet regularly during lunch time to discuss issues and design projects with the purpose of helping Lower School children realize that they can make a difference in today's world. By emphasizing service, CSO intends to help people who are struggling, but it also introduces its members to the challenge of leadership in modern society. The projects help in a range of areas including improving our own school environment during Earth Day and working together to help the less fortunate. In the Spring, CSO works with the Parents' Committee in a day-long schoolwide project to create gifts for those in need. Towards the end of the school year, Student Senate and CSO work together in organizing and facilitating the Spring Fair.
