College Counseling

Welcome to GA's College Counseling program!

Navigating today’s college application process requires careful planning and preparation. Germantown

Academy's team of college counselors educates students and parents about the world of college admissions so they can make informed choices that result in matriculation to a college or university where the student can continue to grow intellectually and emotionally.

College counseling at GA provides two essential services to students: advising and counseling. As advisors, college counselors educate students about the college search and application processes. As counselors, college counselors develop relationships with their students, listen to their goals, aspirations, and concerns, and encourage them to explore colleges that will help them to continue the process that they have begun at GA, of becoming their best selves.

The Role of the College Counselor

At Germantown Academy, our team of experienced college counselors is committed to guiding students through a holistic, highly individualized, student-centered, and student-driven college search process.

  • Counselors meet individually with students, encourage them to stretch, explore, question, and reflect as they develop a college search plan aligned with their goals and interests.
  • Through conversations and workshops, students are guided to engage in self-reflection, conduct in-depth research, and explore a wide range of college options.
  • Counselors incorporate key information about admissions selectivity and affordability to help students identify colleges where they will thrive, develope a sense of belonging, and envision themselves as part of the campus community.
  • We support students in crafting comprehensive and compelling applications while keeping families informed about evolving trends and policies in college admissions.

Germantown Academy’s college counseling team is up to date on the rapidly changing admissions landscape and dedicated to building strong partnerships with students and families. Each counselor brings both extensive college counseling experience and firsthand knowledge from working in selective college admission offices, including Bryn Mawr, Bucknell, Carnegie Mellon, Haverford College, the University of Pennsylvania, Saint Joseph’s, Swarthmore, and Wesleyan.

Drawing on the breadth and depth of the team’s experience, our counselors collaborate thoughtfully to support each student. Every counselee benefits not only from their individual counselor's guidance but also from the collective insight of the entire college counseling team.

We look forward to partnering with students and families on this exciting journey.
