Our Program

Germantown Academy was a founding member of the Inter-Academic Athletic League (Inter-Ac) in 1887, and has been a cornerstone of the league ever since. One of the nation’s oldest and most respected athletic associations, the Inter-Ac sponsors 25 sports today. GA also served as a founding member of the Girls Inter-Ac in 1982 before the organizations merged in 2013–14.

Germantown Academy Athletics Philosophy

GA believes that participation in interscholastic athletics is a vital extension of the educational mission of the school. Through developmentally appropriate and progressively challenging experiences, athletics at GA teach essential life lessons, including teamwork, discipline, resilience, leadership, and accountability. In both Middle School and Upper School, student-athletes are expected to compete with integrity, pursue excellence, and contribute positively to team culture while balancing academic, athletic, and personal growth.

Our Mission

Interscholastic athletics are a vital component of the Upper School experience where student-athletes are challenged to compete at high levels while continuing to grow as teammates, leaders, and individuals. Teams pursue excellence through preparation, accountability, and performance, while upholding a strong culture of character. GA provides opportunities for student-athletes to compete, lead, and excel.

Excellence Every Day

Excellence is built through consistent effort, daily discipline, and a commitment to growth. We encourage GA student-athletes to approach every practice, workout, and classroom experience with focus and determination, understanding that small habits create lasting success.

Prepare with Purpose

Preparation creates opportunity. GA student-athletes learn the value of intentional work, thoughtful planning, and attention to detail as they develop the skills, habits, and mindset necessary to succeed in competition and beyond.

Compete with Confidence

Confidence is earned through preparation, resilience, and trust in oneself and one’s teammates. We challenge GA student-athletes to embrace competition with courage, composure, and a belief in their ability to rise to every moment.

Win as One

True success is achieved together. We foster a culture where teamwork, connection, and selflessness are valued above individual recognition, teaching GA student-athletes to support one another and celebrate shared accomplishments.
